Mice were immunized with paromomycin (PM)-adjuvanted LTB protein on the mucosal surfaces of the oro-nasal cavity and on the vaginal vault. After two immunizations, levels of IgA in saliva, vaginal washes, and feces were measured by ELISA. These data indicate that mucosal surface immunization with PM-adjuvanted LTB protein results in specific IgA at mucosal sites in mice. Animals immunized on the vaginal vault produced more IgA in vaginal washes than did animals immunized on the oro-nasal cavity. This finding indicates that immunization at the vaginal vault induces a stronger immune response than immunization at the oro-nasal cavity.
